Top (left): A close up look at the woodpeckers skull which inspired the use of corrugated structures similar to the ones in its beak.
Top (right) / middle: The unique tongue and skull shape which inspired the helmet to be close fitted and shaped for the users.
Below: The properties of the woodpecker have influenced the Kranium helmet to be close fitted, to use corrugated crumple structures.
Top: The custom crash test rig was created using a 250g accelerometer and a 5kg plaster head. This was fitted with a rail to maintain consintancy.
Middle: An Arduino was used to record the data from the accelerometer and was then converted into the impact values using an equation.
Below: The plaster test head was fitted with different materials and the relative G values were recorded.
