Above: The top surface is a normal capacitive touch-pad that is more flexible. The layers underneath shape the flexible touch-pad to let you feel what is on the screen.
Below: The second layer is a grid of flexible pockets. When a pocket is full of air, it expands in height. The heights of the pockets create the shape.
